Hanbok is the traditional clothing of the Korean people and has a long history . It was worn daily up until about a century ago. and the hanbok remains an important icon of Korea and still worn on special occasions and holidays.
The general design of hanbok aims to create a delicate flow of lines and angles.
It is characterized by vibrant colors and simple lines without pockets.
The unique lines of hanbok appear when the wearer is in motion. Hanbok is creative and expressive in design.
Kings and nobles adopted various costumes, creating fashion and wearing different clothes according to the formalities.
And most commoners have worn white clothes. Colors also symbolized social position and married. For example, children and girls put on the bright colors. Middle ages men and women put on tone down colors. Unmarried women often wore yellow jeogori and red chima.
Women’s hanbok consists of skirt and jeogori and Men’s hanbok consists of jeogori, vest and trousers that remain unchanged for a long time.
Jeogori is the basic upper garment of the hanbok worn by both men and women. It covers the arms and upper part of the body. The basic form of a jeogori consists of gil, git, dongjeong, goreum and sleeves.
Chima means skirt. Chima were made from rectangular cloth that was pleated or gathered into a skirt band.
Baji is the bottom part of the men’s hanbok. It is the formal name for ‘trousers’ in Korean.
