Hanbok is a Korean dress for semi-formal or formal clothing for traditional event. such as festivals, celebrations, and ceremonies.
And Hanbok has a long history . it is daily clothing until about a century ago. And now the hanbok remains an important icon of Korea.
Many Korean peoples still wear Hanbok on special events and holidays.
The general design of hanbok is to create a delicate flow of lines and angles. Also Hanbok has vivid colors and simple lines without pockets. The beautiful lines appear when the people is in motion. Korean traditional dress is creative and expressive in design.
Kings and nobles wore various clothing for fashion and ceremonies.
But most people have worn white clothes. So colors also indicated social position and married. For example, children and girls put on the bright colors. And Middle ages men and women put on tone down colors. Also unmarried women often wore yellow jeogori and red chima.
Women’s hanbok consists of skirt and top (jeogori). and Men’s hanbok consists of top (jeogori), vest and trousers. In addition, Jeogori is the basic upper garment of the hanbok both men and women. It covers the arms and upper part of the body.
Chima means skirt. We call the underskirt or petticoat as sokchima. Sokchima was made in a similar way to the skirts in the past. but later developing into a sleeveless bodice or petticoat.
Generally we recommend the petticoat together for line of dress.
